ARTHUR, MAX
Last of the Few - the Battle of Britain in the Words of the Pilots Who Won It
London, Virgin Publishing. 2010, First Edition. (ISBN: 9780753522271). Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A near Fine unmarked copy apart from a small stamp to title page with dustjacket which has two very small close tears to lower edges and one to rear top edge. xi + 290 pages. The Battle of Britain lasted thirteen terrifying weeks, involved 2,500 young Royal Air Force pilots pitted against the larger and more experienced German Luftwaffe, high above the English Channel. Despite being vastly outnumbered, by October 1940, the multiple daily sorties and dogfights were over - the 'Few' had succeeded and though the Luftwaffe continued to attack it was never again in large numbers. Hitler's invasion would not now take place and this was his first major defeat. More than a fifth of the British and Allied pilots died during the Battle of Britain. The book is based on the surviving pilots' interviews, sound archives and written testaments. 22. Near Fine/Very Good.

ARTHUR, MAX
We Will Remember Them - Voices from the Aftermath of the Great War
London, Weidenfeld and Nicolson. 2009, First Edition. (ISBN: 9780297753299). Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A Fine unmarked copy with Fine dustjacket which is not price clipped. First edition, first printing. xii + 276 pages. 20 illustrations. For Britain and her empire, the human cost of the First World War was worse than any other conflict in history, as almost a million British were killed and almost twice as many were injured, forced to live the rest of their lives with missing limbs, damaged lungs and mental disorders. The legacy of the Great War was just as deeply felt as the war itself and longer lasting, as an entire generation of children grew up without fathers. The book is the story of these men and their families, told in their own words, and depicts the dying months of the war, when victory was close , but would still claim the lives of tens of thousands. 21. CHEHAB, ZAKI
Inside the Resistance - the Iraqi Insurgency and the Future of the Middle East
New York, Nation. 2005, First Edition. (ISBN: 1560257466). Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A Fine unmarked copy with near Fine dustjacket. The author is one of the Arab world's leading journalists, political editor of the London based Al Hayat and of the Arabic TV channel LBC, and has covered Middle Eastern conflicts as a commentator for Arab and Western media, including CNN, BBC and Al Jazeera. When members of the Iraqi resistance first told their story to the world, they told it to Zaki Chehab with his extraordinary access to many leading players in the Middle East. In fact, whilst Western reporters report from Iraq either from the safety of their hotel or embedded with the US military, Chehab goes into the Sunni Triangle and other danger zones in Iraq. The book provides the first authoritative portrait of the insurgency in all its complexity, and he is able to show how the resistance fighters really view the elections, the Iranians, Saddam Hussein, Al Qaeda, and their new American occupiers. 13.
